A combination of medication and therapy is the best approach to assist those suffering from emotional/behavioral discomfort including depression, anxiety, bipolarity, etc. I specialize in prescribing psychiatric medications; this will be the first line treatment in your care. If you feel you may be in need of medication, please call or email us to make an appointment. Medications are used only when necessary and often, on a time limited basis. Medications can help an individual’s well-being; the goal is to work together to come up with a treatment plan that is both evidence-based and in line with client values and goals. I offer monthly or every other psychotherapy while adjusting your medications. I offer routine ground-breaking genetic testing specifically targeted to determine which psychiatric medications are most likely to be effective at treating mental health.
Therapy may be used along with the use of medications. Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, is a way to help people with a broad variety of mental illnesses and emotional difficulties. Psychotherapy can help eliminate or control troubling symptoms so a person can function better and can increase well-being and healing.
Problems helped by psychotherapy include difficulties in coping with daily life; the impact of trauma, medical illness or loss, like the death of a loved one; and specific mental disorders, like depression or anxiety. There are several different types of psychotherapy and some types may work better with certain problems or issues.
Motivational Interviewing is a directive, client-centered counselling style for eliciting behavior change by helping clients to explore and resolve mixed feelings. For individuals needing therapy more than once monthly, a therapist referral will be provided.
